Besides supporting the Dev, why buy that app if most functionality is available in the free versions? Is it just for iCloud sync and unlimited notes?

This is a super app. I have it running all the time.
Definitely worth the price - support the developer.
My app has auto-updated to version 3.31 - MU shows 3.30 as I write this.
